Journey 1 · Look Up · Sacred Time . Exploration 2
The Year Has Rhythms Too
Akka... what doesthe season have to dowith Devi?
In the last journey, we watched the Moon.
Now look around you.
The year has rhythms too.
Traditional Indian understandings of time
recognize changing "ritus" — seasons.
Each season brings its own atmosphere, landscape,
foods, agricultural rhythms, bodily experience,
and cultural practices.
Sacred time is therefore not only about asking:
What date is it?
or:
What tithi is it?
It can also ask:
What is happening in the world around us?
Veda:Akka... what does the season have to do with Devi?
Akka:More than we usually notice.
First, look at what the world is doing.

Time is not only counted. It is noticed. Sacred time can be experienced through both the sky and the changing world.
