It began with a little wooden doll house.
GoluGirl began long before it had a name. It began with a little wooden dollhouse my father brought from Bangalore, India—two stories, a front balcony, a garage in the back, one door, three windows, and enough room for a child's entire imagination.

Small dolls. Big worlds. Always.
A Child Builds a World
Twice a year, during Sankranthi/Pongal and Navaratri, our home became a planning studio. My brother Pavan and I would go to the white sands of Vizag beach with small pails and bring sand home for our display. Under the staircase, we built scenes with palm trees, houses, tiny people, a chugging train, tracks, and even a handmade tunnel. In the evenings, we sat beside these little worlds and read stories to each other.
That sand became our world.

What My Mother Gave Me
At the time, I did not know I was learning design, storytelling, culture, memory, and devotion all at once. I only knew that it felt magical. My mother made these traditions feel alive. Through her, I learned that Golu was not simply decoration. It was a way of arranging memory, family, imagination, and faith into a world children could enter and adults could return to.
What began as play became a way of remembering.
After she passed, I found myself returning to these displays with a different kind of tenderness. They became a way to remember her, honor her, and keep her light present in my life.

Why GoluGirl Exists
GoluGirl was born from that place—from childhood wonder, from a daughter’s love, and from the belief that culture survives when we make it beautiful, participatory, and meaningful for the next generation. Today, GoluGirl is for families trying to reconnect with traditions that once felt close—for parents wondering how to pass culture to their children, for grandparents whose memories deserve to be preserved, and for anyone who has ever opened an old festival box and felt that a whole world was still waiting inside.
Different generations. The same beautiful thread.

OUR PROMISE
Building worlds. Preserving stories. Passing imagination across generations.
