Night Four · Meet Her
The One Who Brings Warmth to the Beginning
Veda:Ammomma… what does Kushmanda have
to do with beginnings?
Ammomma:She is remembered in living tradition in
connection with the beginning of creation.
Veda:So, she is connected with how everything begins?
Akka:I’ve heard that she is also remembered for
creating the universe with a smile.
Ammomma:Yes. Living tradition remembers her smile as
part of the beginning of creation.
Kushmanda is associated in living tradition with cosmic creation/beginning.

Veda:Akka… isn’t she also the Devi who made the
universe with a smile?
Akka:I’ve heard that too. Ammomma, is that another
way Kushmanda is remembered?
Ammomma:Yes. Living tradition remembers her smile as
bringing forth the cosmos.
Veda:So… warmth and a smile?
Ammomma:Different tellings. Both point toward a beginning.
Before form, there is potential. Before emergence, there are conditions.
