Night Eight of Nine
What Do We Do Now?
Seven nights had asked something of them.
To begin. To stay. To make. To care. To look again.
Golu Girl was already wondering what came next.
Akka:Ammomma… what do we do tonight?
Ammomma looked at her for a moment.
Ammomma looked at her for a moment.
Ammomma:Why do you think we have to do
something first?
Veda looked down at her own hands.
something first?
Veda looked down at her own hands.
Veda:Then what are they for?
Ammomma smiled.
Ammomma smiled.
Ammomma:Let’s see.

We often meet a new moment by asking:
What should I do?
It is an important question.
But it is not the only one.
Sometimes, before acting, we may need to notice how we are arriving.
Not every beginning asks us to do more.

Across the Nine Nights, the questions have kept changing. Sometimes we are asked to stand. Sometimes to act. Sometimes to come closer. Tonight begins with a different possibility: What if we do not reach first?

When something new begins, is your first thought usually: “What should I do?”
