JOURNEY 3 · LOOK-AROUND · CELEBRATE · SCENE 1
A Home Becomes a World
Bommala Koluvu / Golu
“Akka… this one feels smaller than the big celebrations.”
“Smaller in size, maybe.”
“But look closely — an entire world can gather inside a home.”
In some homes, Navaratri is welcomed through Bommala Koluvu — also known as Golu — where dolls are arranged on steps, lamps are lit, offerings are prepared, and the door is opened to visitors.Stories, memory, devotion, and hospitality all find a place here. The steps may be small. The room may be ordinary on other days. But during Navaratri, the home itself becomes a place where people gather, remember, and celebrate the sacred together.
What we notice in a home:

A tradition does not need a large public stage to feel expansive. Sometimes a few steps, a few dolls, and an open door are enough to create a whole world.
