JOURNEY 3 · LOOK-AROUND · CELEBRATE · SCENE 1
Before the Festival Begins
“Akka… where was all of this before the festival?”
“In many hands.”
“Long before we arrive, people are already making, painting, shaping, repairing, cooking, arranging, and preparing.”
Before the festival begins, many kinds of work are already underway.
Some people shape and paint.
Some cook, clean, repair, arrange, remember, teach, and prepare.
Dolls are unpacked. Flowers are strung. Lamps are cleaned. Decorations are made. Old pieces are repaired. New ones begin to take shape.
Some skills are learned through training.
Others are carried through families, workshops, neighborhoods, and years of repetition.
The festival may last only a few days.
The knowledge behind it can take years to learn.

A tradition is not kept alive by objects alone. It survives because someone still knows how to make, mend, arrange, teach, and begin again.
But knowing how to make something is only part of the story. Someone also has to teach the next person.
