Night Five . Meet Her
SKANDAMATA
The Devi Who Holds Skanda
On the fifth night, Devi appears differently.
She is not alone.
This is Skandamata.
And Skanda is held close to her.
Veda:Akka… she has a little boy with her?
Akka:Yes. That's Skanda.
Ammomma:Skandamata means Skanda's mother.
Veda:She's holding him.
Skandamata is traditionally shown with four arms.
She holds Skanda, carries two lotuses, and one hand is shown in a gesture of reassurance or blessing.
A lion is also part of her received form.
But before we explain any of these details, notice the simplest thing first: Devi is being seen in relationship with someone else.
This time, Devi is not alone.

The earlier nights asked us to meet Devi through steadiness, commitment, courage, and creation. Tonight, we first notice something quieter: She is holding another being close.
What changes when strength is seen beside care?
