Katyayani
Katyayani’s story begins with many powers. Not one. The energies of the devas are brought together. They gather. They take form. That form is Katyayani. Her strength does not come from doing everything at once. It comes from many forces moving toward one purpose.
So She was made from many kinds of strength?
Yes.
Like everybody gave some?
You could say that.
Akka looks again at Katyayani.
And all that strength went in one direction.
Yes.
In the tradition we are following tonight, the energies of the devas gather at Sage Katyayana’s hermitage. From that gathered power, Katyayani takes form. She is not described as scattered power. She is power brought together for something that must be faced. That is what makes her story important here. Strength can exist in many places. But when it gathers around what matters, it becomes capable of movement.
Strength changes when it knows where to go.
Katyayani does not teach us to use all our strength on everything. She asks a harder question: What deserves your strength? Direction gives power meaning.
